Meln (her alpha) cell line

MELN were generated by transfection of breasr cancer MCF-7 cells with the ERE-betaGlobin-Luciferase-SV40-Neomycin plasmid.
The plasmid ERE-betaGlob-Luc-SVNeo contains a luciferase gene driven by estrogen receptor responsive element (ERE) in front of beta-globin promoter and a neomycin phosphotransferase gene under the control of SV40 promoter.

Interest / Relevance: These cells enable to measure the hER alpha estrogenic activity (full and partial agonism, antagonism) of pharmaceuticals (breast cancer, menopause treatment), environmental compounds (alkylphenols, bisphenol A, phthalates or pesticides, cosmetics).
These cells enable to measure the hER alpha estrogenic activity of environmental (water, sediments), human (blood, urine adipose tissue) or food (water, vegetables, meat) samples.
Keywords: Estrogen receptor alpha, luciferase, pharmaceutical and environmental estrogens
